How many of you know about this powerful movie?

Iron Jawed Angels is inspired by a huge moment in history about a group called the “National Woman’s Party”. Hilary Swank plays Alice Paul, an american feminist who risked her life for women’s citizenship and the right to vote. She founded the “National Woman’s Party” and and wrote the first equal rights amendment to be presented before congress. Her and Lucy Burns (Frances O’Connor). Alice Paul struggled against congress to make the 19th amendment to the Constitution of the United States. One of the first things they dd was a parade on President Woodrow Wilson’s inauguration day. These Suffragettes also encountered  opposition from the old guard of the National American Women’s Suffrage Association. These women got arrested and go on a hunger strike, where their refusal to eat earned them the name “iron jawed angels”.

This video is so powerful. The song they sing Is by Johnny Cash, a song called “Will They Circle Be Unbroken”

These are the lyrics:

I was standing by the window
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord, bye and bye
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

I said to the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord I hate to see her go

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord, bye and bye
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord, bye and bye
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

I went back home, the home was lonesome
Since my mother, she was gone
All my brothers and sisters crying
What a home so sad and alone

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord, bye and bye
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

We sang songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along

Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord, bye and bye
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky

This time period, these people: Image(The movie)

Image(The real women)

These people made it, so me, and all other women could/can live the life we do today!

If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it!
